UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – RESERVE DIVISION
COGENHOE UNITED RESERVES v WELLINGBOROUGH WHITWORTH RESERVES
Compton Park,
Brafield Rd,
Cogenhoe.
NN7 1ND
KO 7-45 pm
After three successive away games, the Cooks return to Compton Park with a match against the team where that run started, Wellingborough Whitworth. The Flourmen sit two places above the Cooks in 10th place, ten points to the good, but having played four games more. Back at the start of February we made the reverse trip to Wellingborough where we were beaten 2-1 on the day with Velin Raychev scoring a late winner for the home side. It had been a good start for the Cooks when Connor Gibbins gave us the lead with only four minutes played, but it was level again three minutes later when Jordan Richards hit the target. Since that game the Cooks have played twice, going out of the Junior Cup and then last Saturday we picked up a point at Raunds in a goalless stalemate. Whitworth have played just the once, an excellent 2-1 win at Daventry Town with Raychev and Connor Mallows on target.
Last time these two sides met here was on the 9th October 2021 and the points were shared that day in a 2-2 draw. Andis Vigants gave us the lead after 11 minutes and Shad Reza added a second on 23. Noah Thompson reduced the arrears five minutes before the break and the sending off of Elijah Noel didn’t help our cause much, with Akram Laslire popping up with the equaliser in the 64th minute, just four minutes after coming on as a sub.
The Cooks were missing a whole host of players on Saturday, but Ian Adcock will have a majority of those back for this game and will be keen to get the three points after four games without a win.
