UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE-PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH
O.N CHENECKS v COGENHOE UNITED
Old Northamptonians Sports Ground,
Billing Road,
Northampton.
NN1 5 LS
KO 3-pm
The Cooks bring the curtain down on 2021 with a trip to local rivals O.N Chenecks on the Bank Holiday Tuesday afternoon with the game kicking off at 3pm. Wayne Richardson took the over the Billing Road hot-seat in the summer following the resignation of Ben Foster and he along with the long-serving Leigh Burdett have found the going tough so far. They currently sit one place above the relegation zone on goal-difference only and would have been even lower had Peterborough Northern Star not folded and had their record expunged recently. Chenecks have lost their last six games and have won just once, a 2-0 victory away at Potton United, whilst they have drawn three, home and away against Rothwell Corinthians and away to G.N.G Oadby Town meaning they have picked up just one point at home this season. They have made a number of new signings since the start of the season including Cooks reserve keeper Nathan Adamson who is now a regular in the Chenecks first team whilst Lewis Irwin, Ben Lewington and Ash Ogden have all returned to the fold recently after spells away. They actually have 30 former Cooks players signed on for them, but I would guess that apart from Adamson, Ross Garlick would be the only other player likely to feature.
Chenecks spent many seasons in Division One but Graham Cottle turned things around quite dramatically and with the club supporting off the field with the addition of floodlights, they were promoted at the end of 2015-16 season as runners-up to Peterborough Sports. We have met just three times at Billing Road since then though as the last two season’s fixtures were void, so the last trip there at first team level came on Boxing Day 2018 when Ryan Dove’s hat-trick led the way in a 6-1 win for the Cooks. Recent Premier Division meetings at Billing Road listed below.
2018-19 | W 6-1 | Ryan Dove (3), Dan Stevenson (2), Matt Long
2017-18 | W 2-0 | Ryan Ansell, Ryan Dove
2016-17 | L 2-1 | Luke Emery |
Here at Cogenhoe we finally ended a miserable run of form with a 2-1 home win over Easington Sports last time out with Archie Culley and Archie Elmore on target as we completed the first league double of the season so far. With New Year’s Day falling on a Saturday, our next action will be a home game against Newport Pagnell Town on Bank Holiday Monday 3rd January 2022 with the kick-off being 3-pm.
