UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE-PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH

COGENHOE UNITED v G.N.G OADBY TOWN

Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN7 1ND

KO 3pm.

The Cooks will be looking to get back to winning ways after two successive defeats, but they have to overcome a G.N.G Oadby Town who sit one place and two points behind them in the table (the Poachers also have two games in hand) to do so. Oadby are on a five game unbeaten run at the moment having won their last two, beating Easington Sports 2-1 at home on Saturday to follow on from a 3-1 victory at Long Buckby. Prior to that they were surprisingly held at home by struggling Chenecks in an entertaining 3-3 draw with this coming after a a very good 1-1 draw away to high-flyers Wellingborough Town. The run started with a comprehensive 3-0 win at home to Desborough Town which had helped to erase the memories of a 4-0 drubbing they had received away to Potton the week before. Away form hasn’t been great though, with the recent win at Buckby being their only victory on the road so far in all competitions.

We didn’t meet at all last season so the last game between us at Compton Park came back in 2019/20 when we were held to a 0-0 draw, mainly thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Brandon Pickard who thwarted us a number of times with some great saves. We have met just six times here, all since Oadby Town won promotion from Division One back in 2013/14 when they amassed an amazing 122 points. The last two games have been drawn here, but the Poachers won on their first three visits with our sole win coming back in 2017/18, full details with Cooks scorers below.

2019-20 0v0
2018-19 1v1 RYAN DOVE
2017-18 3v0 NATHAN BURROWS (2), LUIS VIEIRA
2016-17 1v2 RYAN LOVELL
2015-16 2v4 JACK BOWEN, DEAN LUKEMAN
2014-15 0v3

The Cooks have of course lost their last two games, both against teams in the top four and both looking to lift the trophy come May, but Saturday’s 0-4 defeat to Lutterworth came on a day we had a few key regulars missing and was still rather harsh on the lads, so hopefully we will be back to full strength for this game and fired up to get another run going.

UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE-RESERVE DIVISION

BUGBROOKE ST MICHAELS Reserves v COGENHOE UNITED Reserves

The Sett,

Gayton Rd,

Bugbrooke,

NN7 3PH

KO 3-pm.

The Reserves face a tough test on Saturday as they travel to play a Bugbrooke team who sit third in the table, five points behind leaders Kempston, but with two games in hand. The Badgers remain unbeaten with eleven wins and one draw from their twelve games played so far, including a 4-0 win at Compton Park not too long ago under the lights. They have scored 13 goals in their last two outings, beating Chenecks 5-0 last on Tuesday night, Saturday’s trip to Newport Pagnell was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, but the previous weekend saw them hammer Potterspury 8-0 in the NFA Junior Cup. The only game they haven’t won so far was a 3-3 draw at Desborough in a game that saw them take the lead, go 2-1 down but come back to lead 3-2 before being denied their 12th straight win by an 89th minute equaliser.

The Cooks actually played quite well against Bugbrooke at home despite losing 4-0 to what has to be said was a very good visiting team with two very late goals giving the Badgers the big win. Trent Oakes, Will Glennon, Dalton Leon and Tom Binder were all on target that night as Bugbrooke held firm to their place at the top of the table back at the end of September.

The Cooks were without a game last weekend, but will be keen to put on a good show after losing 2-6 at home to local rivals Wellingborough Town in their last outing.
