NORTHANTS SENIOR YOUTH LEAGUE-SOUTH
BIGGLESWADE TOWN YOUTH U18 v COGENHOE UNITED U18
Yvette Brewer Stadium,
Langford Rd,
Biggleswade,
Beds.
SG18 9JT
Tonight Gary Fletcher and his assistant Damien McGrath take their U18 squad for what is probably their longest trip of the season as they head to Biggleswade Town. The Stevenage post code tells you that the ground is near the Hertfordshire border with most of their local rivals playing in the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League, but their decision to play in the Northants Senior Youth League is a real plus for us with our numbers dwindling over the years.
Both teams were in action last Thursday with the Waders going down 1-3 at home to now leaders Cranfield with Harry Fuller netting their goal, whilst the Cooks were 4-0 winners at bottom place Irchester with Matt Fletcher scoring twice along with one apiece for Archie and Freddie Shaw.
The game at Compton Park turned into a pretty one-sided affair with Cogenhoe running out 8-0 winners. Despite the scoreline I didn’t feel that Biggleswade were that bad a team and we were absolutely superb on the night, led by Luca Iaciofano who bagged a hat-trick that older brother Joey would have been proud of. Manny Asante, Charlie McAuley, Shad Reza, Josh Wootton and an own goal took the tally to eight on the night, but this result was by far the worst of the season so far for the Waders. We all know that wounded animals should be approached with extreme care and there is no doubt that the home side will be looking for revenge tonight result-wise and it is very unlikely that we will see a repeat of that result at the Yvette Brewer Stadium.
The hosts currently lie in sixth spot with three wins and four defeats from their seven games, with a 1-0 victory over Kempston the last time they picked up three points, but a great performance against unbeaten Whitworth Red saw them go down narrowly 4-5 in the match prior to the Cranfield defeat. Their other two wins coming at Irchester 4-2 and Bedford Town at home 2-0 on the opening day.
One for your dairies now as the Northants F.A David Joyce Cup 2nd Round draw has been made and we have a home tie against Rothwell Corinthians Development which will be played next Thursday 18th November with the usual 7-45 pm kick-off.
