UHLPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE-PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH

ROTHWELL CORINTHIANS v COGENHOE UNITED

Sargeants Lawn

Desborough Road

Rothwell.

NN14 6JQ

KO 7-45 PM

The last time the Cooks headed out this way on a Tuesday night they returned home with a comfortable 3-0 away win under their belts from Desborough. This journey is a couple of miles shorter though as we stop in Rothwell to face a Corinthians side that have won one and lost three of their opening four league matches. Their win came seven days ago when they beat Peterborough Northern Star 2-1 away from home, while last Saturday they put up a good fight at early leaders Rugby before going down 3-2.

Corinthians have a much-changed squad this time around with a new management team too after Ben Watts took the hot seat during the summer. They, very much like ourselves, are rebuilding with a younger outlook and are still settling in as a team with this season probably being a learning curve with highs and lows along the way. Our record in Rothwell since they returned to the Premier Division back in 2014/15 has been superb, drawing the first game and winning the next four, although our previous two trips to Sargeants Lawn have been scheduled after the season had been abandoned by the F.A, so it’s a while since we have made this trip at first team level.

F.A YOUTH CUP-PRELIMINARY ROUND

BARTON ROVERS U18 v COGENHOUE UNITED U 18

Sharpenhoe Road,

Barton-le-Clay

Beds.

MK45 4LQ

KO 7-45 pm

Darren and Chris take their new U18s squad to Barton Rovers on Wednesday as they kick-off the real stuff with an F.A Youth Cup tie. It is a competition we have had some success in over the years and it wasn’t too long ago that our current management duo oversaw the Cooks beating Coventry City before losing narrowly 1-2 at home to Crystal Palace in front of a bumper crowd at Compton Park.

Pre-season has seen a majority of our U18s squad playing for the reserves which hasn’t helped their preparation as a team, but the two games they have played were both won as we beat Corby Town 4-3 and Wellingborough Town 3-1. It is difficult to know what to expect in these early season games and I have to admit to knowing next to nothing about the youth set-up at Barton so this is a bit of a journey into the unknown for us.

Good luck to both our sides in action this week and let’s hope for three points and another game to look forward in the F.A completion.
