NORTH STAR VETS (1) 1 COGENHOE UNITED VETS (2) 2
North Star;
Unknown 35
Cooks;
Raymond 8
Reed 25
The Cooks travelled to Eacton Brook to play North Star Vets in the County Cup, three weeks after kicking off their league campaign at the same venue against the same opponents. That game ended 2-2, but this time the Cooks went one better and booked a passage into the next round courtesy of a 2-1 win.
A thumping finish from Donovan Reed fired the Cooks in front on 8 minutes and they continued to press before an equally emphatic finish from Paul Raymond doubled the advantage after 25 minutes. North Star reduced the arrears on 35 minutes with a breakaway goal from their number twenty, another great strike it must be said, but they couldn’t find a second. Home keeper Leon De-Terville was by far the busier of the two keepers, but a run of injuries made it a stop-start second half which suited the team with the lead. The pitch didn’t make it easy for the players either with bare patches all over it, what was left of the grass cut much to short and very little green to be seen either.
The draw for the second round is yet to be made, but it might be worth missing Wittering Premiair Vets who beat Northampton Phoenix 15-1 on Sunday.
Next up for the Cooks is their first home game this Sunday when they host Milton Keynes based Clean Slate at Compton Park, kick-off 10-30am.
