UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE-PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH

COGENHOE UNITED v LEICESTER ROAD

Compton Park

Brafield Rd

Cogenhoe

NN7 1ND

KO 3pm

We get back to league action tomorrow with another new opponent for the Cooks as we face Hinckley based Leicester Road. Our opponents are a relatively new club and play at the former Hinckley United ground on the Leicester Road on the outskirts of the town. This is their first season at step six having been promoted from the Midland League Division One after an impressive start to last season that had seen them lose just once before the lockdown.

They kicked off their UCL life in style as they cruised into a three goal lead inside half an hour of their debut game at home to Coventry Sphinx, but the visitors pulled two back early in the second half to make it a tense final half hour. There were no more goals though so the lead built up by Matt Langham (10), Dom Brennan (17) and Tom Smith (28) proved enough to earn the three points with a 3-2 win. On Saturday they faced a tough trip to Walsall Wood in the F.A Cup and kept up their 100% start with a 2-0 away win. Smith scored in the 28th minute for the second game running, but they had to wait until two minutes into stoppage time before Brennan finally sealed the win. Our guests are managed by former league player Neil Lyne so both sides will have former-Cobblers players as their gaffer.

Lane were without a game in midweek while we of course made the trip to Haverhill in Suffolk where we returned home with a very satisfactory 2-0 win. Archie Elmore opened the scoring five minutes before the break and Dylan Wilson made sure five minutes from full time as we earned a home tie with Dereham Town which will be played on Saturday 21st August at 3pm.

Last night the U18s kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 4-3 win at home to Corby Town. Matt Fletcher bagged himself a hat-trick in the game with Shad Reza netting the other.

UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE-RESERVE DIVISION

YAXLEY Reserves v COGNHOE UNITED Reserves.

In2itive Park Stadium

Leading Drove

Yaxley.

KO 3pm

The Reserves kick off their league campaign tomorrow with a trip out Peterborough way as we head to Yaxley and their 3G surface. The Cuckoos started last Saturday with a home game against fellow artificial pitch artisans Harborough Town and ended up on the wrong-end of a 2-6 thumping. It was 2-5 at half-time in this one, that’s not something you see very often at any level, with Owen Dalliday and Liam Sanderson scoring for the Cambridgeshire club.

There is sure to be a number of debuts for us with the majority of the squad being made up from our U18s team who will be taking their first steps in senior football so we wish them well tomorrow. Having seen three games pre-season I can tell you we have some real ability out there and hopefully some of these will be knocking on the first team door as they gain experience in their new surroundings.

All the best to both our teams tomorrow and let’s hope for we are all smiling come 5pm.
