UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – PREMIER DIVISION
COVENTRY UNITED v COGENHOE UNITED
Butts Park Arena,
Butts Rd,
Coventry.
CV1 3GE
KO 3pm.
The Cooks four match unbeaten run will be put to the test on Saturday as we travel to play fifth placed Coventry United. The Red & Greens have won three out of five so far in the league with the latest being an impressive looking 3-1 win at Easington Sports on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon. All the Coventry goals coming in the first half that day as Archie Crowther, Adam Miles and Joseph Agunbiade all found the target as they bounced straight back from Saturday’s disappointing 0-2 home reverse to Long Buckby. They have only won once so far at home in the league though, a 4-2 win over G.N.G Oadby Town on the first midweek of the season and so far they have failed to win a home game on a Saturday. They have suffered a couple of heavy defeats on the road, a 5-0 beating at March Town United and a 4-0 loss to Highgate United in a F.A Cup replay after drawing 2-2 at home.
Last season’s game ended 1-1 at the Butts Park arena in our first ever trip there with Ashton Demulder firing the home side in front on the half-hour mark and Archie Elmore levelling from the spot three minutes before half-time.
The Cooks go into the game on a decent run which could have been even better had we made our second-half dominance count with a winner on Tuesday night, but Pharrell Anderson’s penalty early on was matched by Michael Baulk’s free-kick in a 1-1 draw. The previous Saturday had seen Anderson, a Connor Bird own goal and a debut goal from Josh Jones give the Cooks a 3-2 win over Rothwell Corinthians in the F.A Vase. Mitch White will be available again after serving his three match ban, whilst in other squad news, Archie Elmore has now signed for our local rivals Wellingborough Town.
UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – RESERVE KNOCK OUT UP 1ST ROUND
COGENHOE UNITED Reserves v BOURNE TOWN Reserves
Compton Park,
Brafield Rd,
Cogenhoe.
NN7 1ND
KO 2pm.
The Cooks Reserves return to action with a home game against Bourne Town in the League Cup. Games against The Wakes second string are usually fairly close affairs and looking at the tables this season it will probably be a similar affair this weekend. Please note the game kicks-off at 2pm and home reserve games will mainly follow suit as we head into the winter months, allowing the club to save a fortune on electric bills by not using the floodlights for the second half.
Last time out the Wakes picked up their first win of the season with a 3-1 success in Raunds as Joe Wilkinson and Leon Kavanagh (2) found the back of the net at Kiln Park. Bourne have only scored eight goals in their six games so far and Kavanagh has scored seven of them, so it looks like he could prove to be a real threat tomorrow if he is in the team. The Cooks last game was a week last Tuesday and we put up an excellent display against a Wellingborough Town team featuring multiple first team players on the night, with the Doughboys narrowly taking the points with a 1-0 win.
The last time the two teams met here in the village, the Cooks ran out 4-2 winners with all the goals coming in the first half. Doubles from Shad Reza and Ben Mason counting for the Cooks, with Jake Dilley and Nandeli Pelembe replying for the Lincolnshire club. Mason has recently left the Cooks to link up with Daventry Town reserves, scoring on his debut in a 2-1 defeat at Huntingdon Town after coming on as a second half sub. Shad has also moved on to pastures new as he followed Darren Long to Moulton and has had a great start to the season playing at the lower level.
