The Reserves travelled to the in-form Newport Pagnell after a disappointing midweek defeat to MK Irish, not the game on paper we wanted with confidence waning.
A sluggish first 15 mins from both teams struggled to keep the 50+ strong crowd engaged, however, The Cooks then began to dominate the play, if not creating the chances the play deserved – a common theme so far this season.
HT: 0-0 and no real clear cut chances for either team.
The re-start was only marginally better than the start of the first half, however, on 55 mins, some solid defending from Joe Morris seemed to rile Pagnell’s No. 9, who lashed out whilst Morris was shepherding the ball back to Wells, and gave the ref no choice but to show a red card.
The Cooks then took control against the 10-men, playing some good football and stretching the Pagnell defence. Shots from Andrews and Green from the edge of the box were just too central, despite being clean strikes and it looked like another frustrating day at the office!
That was until on 73 mins when Mobbs went down the right, cut back and laid the ball to Andrews, who whipped the ball over to Gibbons who planted a header worthy of a goal itself, however, Pagnell’s keeper, who was arguably their MOM, produced a wonder save only to tip it on to the post and Redding was there to slot home in a poachers-like fashion!
1-0 up after 73 mins against 10 men, the game should have been seen out, however, this is when The Cooks froze and passing went wayward and control was lost.
Pagnell pushed numbers forward as time went on and created their first clear cut chance of the game and, unlike our season so far, Alpheaus Azanechie took it with composure.
The Cooks still had one great chance before the end when Gibbins was put through on goal, but Pagnell keeper was very quick off his line to make another good save and so the points were shared.
Frustrating not to beat 10-men when dominant, but a point gained when we look back at the season no doubt.
