NORTHANTS SENIOR YOUTH LEAGUE-SOUTH

COGENHOE UNITED v KEMPSTON ROVERS ACADEMY

Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN7 1ND

KO 7-45pm

The Cooks U18s return to league action on Thursday when they host Kempston Rovers Academy at Compton Park. Our visitors are currently one point and one place below us in the South Division table, but we have played three games less. They did however inflict a 3-2 defeat on us at Hillgrounds earlier in the season with two late goals clinching the victory. A first minute penalty had given the Walnutboys a dream start, but we turned the game on its head after the break with Josh Wootton and Luca Iaciofano on target, but a mistake at the back cost us dearly before a wonder strike from well outside the box proved to be the worthy match-winner on the night.

Last Monday they travelled to Bedford Town for an away fixture, I say travelled but it was actually played at Hillgrounds due to Bedford not having a ground, and triumphed 5-1 after falling behind early on. Plamedi Bomolo netted twice with Harvey Williams, Douglas Zuze and Tychique Mienambolo also finding the back of the net.  The Cooks were faced with a much tougher game as they hosted Northampton Town and the EFL professionals ran out comfortable 5-0 winners despite a valiant effort by the young Cooks.

The league table now looks a little different following the folding of Irchester United and their playing record has now been expunged. We have lost three points plus the goals from our 4-0 win at Alfred Street, but some other clubs have been hit even harder. Cranfield had beaten them twice and as a result are now just three points ahead of us having played a game more, whilst poor old Bedford now have just one point after having the six from the Romans games taken away.
