UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – RESERVE DIVISION

COGENHOE UNITED RESERVES v HARBOROUGH TOWN RESERVES

Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN7 1ND

KO 7-45 pm

The Reserves didn’t have a fixture this weekend, but return to action on Tuesday evening with a home game against Harborough Town who look odds-on to lift the title this season. They sit four points clear at the top, with their only serious challengers being Bugbrooke St Michaels and with the added bonus that they have played three games less. Things didn’t go well on Saturday though they when they made the short trip to Desborough Town and suffered a rare defeat at the hands of their local rivals. Leading scorer Elliot Grainger was on target for the Bees, but former Cooks striker Will Russell struck twice for Ar Tarn after Jude Coates had opened the scoring for the home side.

First team gaffer Scott Carlin will take charge of the team for this game as Ian Adcock and Lee Saving are in Germany with a squad of U14s players.

UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH

COGENHOE UNITED v DESBOROUGH TOWN

We head into the final month of the season tomorrow with a home game against in form Desborough Town. Ar Tarn beat us 1-0 a week last Saturday thanks to a late winning goal from Rico Duggan and on the following Tuesday night they made in five straight victories as goals from Alvin Magagada and former Cooks player Archie Elmore gave them a 2-0 win at home to Coventry United. Last week’s game had been a close encounter and it is likely that they won’t be too much between the teams again tomorrow, but Jim Le Mesurier’s boys have that winning habit and will be bubbling with confidence before the game. The Cooks put on a great second half showing at new leaders Coventry Sphinx in their previous, but two goals in the first 18 minutes proved too much for us to claw our way back from. The boys should take plenty of positives from that second half performance though and will look to carry that into their next game.

Ash Bodycote, so impressive for us between the sticks this season, has extended his loan spell from Rugby Town until the end of the season which is great news for Biff and he can also call on Perry Ronayne and Bailey Weatherly tomorrow after missing out recently through injury and suspension recently. Dalton Leon also returns to the squad after unavailability ruled him out of the game at Sphinx in the week.

As mentioned on last week’s preview, we have already played Desborough at Compton Park this season and progressed into the semi-finals of the County Cup on penalties after a 1-1 draw. The last time the two clubs met here in the league was on Saturday 4th December 2021 and also ended in a 1-1 draw. Jack Riley had been shown a straight red card on 39 minutes and Barnes Gladman gave the visitors the lead on the stroke of half-time. The tem men drew level through Dylan Wilson in the first minute of the second half and this is how the game ended. Ar Tarn’s Iain Blaikie, Liam Boath and Aaron Davies were the only players from that game to have featured last Saturday which highlights how quickly things can change in the UCL.
