NORTHANTS F.A HILLIER SENIOR CUP – SEMI FINAL

COGENHOE UNITED v KETTERING TOWN

Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN7 1ND

KO 7-45 pm

It has been a long time since the Cooks played a midweek game under the Compton Park lights, but this is going to be a big one as we face National League North side Kettering Town in the NFA Senior Cup. This is the first of two semi-finals the Cooks will play this year, with the winners of this game facing either Corby Town or Peterborough Sports in the final at Sixfields in April. The Cooks will obviously be the underdogs in this fixture as the Poppies play their football three steps higher than us, but we have shown our best form in the cup competitions so far this season and anything can happen over 90 minutes on the park.

The Poppies travelled up to West Yorkshire on Saturday to face Bradford Park Avenue, who sat five places, but just three points ahead of them before the game and although the point from the 1-1 draw helps in the bid to pull away from the relegation zone, the fact that the home side equalised five minutes into stoppage time will have put a major dampener on the long drive back down the M1.

The Cooks had another frustrating afternoon as the heavy rain meant another postponement, this time losing the home fixture with fellow strugglers Rothwell Corinthians. Lutterworth Town’s excellent 2-1 win away to March Town United meant that they moved above us in the table, leaving just Rothwell and Long Buckby below us in the table. Craig Hayward’s Buckby, suffering an 8-0 defeat at leaders Rugby Town.

There will be a winner tonight as the game will go straight to penalties if the scores are still level at 90 minutes with no extra-time.

How we got this far;

Cooks.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds H 1-1 (Diamonds removed for fielding ineligible player)

Desborough Town H 1-1 (Cooks won 4-3 on penalties)

Poppies.

Bugbrooke St Michaels A 3-2

Daventry Town A 2-1.
