UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH

COGENHOE UNITED v EASINGTON SPORTS

Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN7 1ND

KO 7-45 PM

The Cooks play their second of three home games in the space of eight days as they host Easington Sports on Tuesday night, hoping to put an end to the losing streak that now stands at six matches. The Clan currently occupy tenth spot, five places above the Cooks, although the points gap is only three. They have 17 points from 13 games going into this fixture and ran out 3-1 winners over Lutterworth Town on Saturday with seasoned campaigner Ricky Johnson bagging a brace and Callum Convey netting the other. Prior to that they progressed in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup with an incredible 8-4 win at home to county league side Summertown Stars, but it would appear that they lost interest somewhat as they had led 8-1 without too long left to play in that game.

Their best form had been at Addison Road so far this season, although they have now won twice on the road in the league, ironically both coming in St Neots. The pick of their results must have been the 1-0 win at Town, while their last trip saw them win 2-0 at struggling Eynesbury Rovers. As a marker they did win 3-2 at Eastwood CFC in the league cup, the team who of course beat us here on Saturday in the F.A Vase, with Dalton Leon the man on target in a 1-3 reverse. As far as goals go for The Clan, former Banbury United striker Johnson and Josh Reilly both have six to their name, while Leam Howards and Chay Buckingham are both on five as the goals have been spread out around the squad.

Last season the Cooks ran out 1-0 winners in this fixture with Luca Purse heading the only goal of a tight encounter on 56 minutes. The only other meeting here came the previous season, Easington’s first in the UCL after many years in the Hellenic, with the Cooks winning the game 2-1. Archie Culley’s superb effort that went in off the bar opened the scoring on 12 minutes, but this was quickly cancelled out by Alex Stott. Archie Elmore struck the winner 15 minutes from time to give the Cooks the points so we currently have a 100% record against The Clan at Compton Park, something that hopefully we can maintain after tomorrow’s game.
