UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH

COGENHOE UNITED v HISTON

Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN7 1ND

KO 7-45 PM

It has been a crazy week for the Cooks with an awful performance at Lutterworth last Tuesday being followed up by the destruction of Long Buckby on their own patch on Saturday afternoon. Tommy Curry scoring a hat-trick on his full debut, Jessi Obeng and sub Louie Barrett both netting twice, all after Harry Waple-Moors had deservedly got his first goal for the Cooks. This added up to an 8-2 victory at Station Road on an incredible afternoon for the Cooks. Our next opponents Histon were also celebrating a big win on the road, a 4-0 success over G.N G at the Riverside Football Ground, with two goals in each half. Dan Brown opened the scoring on 8 minutes and added a second right on half-time. Babacar Camara made the game all but safe with the third six minutes into the second half and Ryan Towner rounded off the scoring five minutes from the end.

The victory in Leicester completed a quickfire double as they had thrashed G.N.G 5-0 in Impington just two weeks previous and these games are part of a seven match unbeaten run following on from the shock 0-3 home reverse to Godmanchester Rovers in their first game of 2023. They have won nine and drew one of their last eleven games and must be considered one of the form teams at the moment, occupying fifth place in the table. Their patchy early season form means they are not that likely to finish much higher, but must be laying the foundations for a promotion push next season if they can keep their squad together in the summer.

This will be The Stutes first trip to Compton Park, although we did meet at their place in the F.A Vase a few years ago. More on that game in Saturday’s match preview when we head to Bridge Road for a very quick return fixture.

Saturday’s win lifted us up to 13th place and if what I have been told that only one team will be relegated from this division in May is correct, we are now 14 points clear of the drop, but it is important to keep the momentum going, starting with Histon home and away over the next few days.

Please note that there is a slight chance of light snow in the early hours of the morning, but the biggest risk to the game is likely to be frost with temperatures currently forecast to drop to around zero by 6pm. The club will post any pitch inspections and updates on the Twitter feed during the afternoon.
