ISUZU F.A VASE – 1ST ROUND

HINCKLEY AFC v COGENHOE UNITED

Barwell FC,

Barwell Cricket & Sports Club,

Kirkby Rd,

Barwell,

Leics.

LE9 8FQ

KO 3pm.

On Saturday we travel to Barwell to face Midland League Division One (Step 6) club Hinckley AFC, the other half of the former Hinckley United, after being acquainted with Leicester Road last season, although we now face the club who took most of the old fan base with them. AFC were in Division One of the UCL last season and only missed out on promotion in a play-off defeat and although they only sit in the middle of the table in the MFL, they have games in hand on everyone else and were they to win them, they would in a very strong play-off position this time around as well. They were in action on Monday when they came from behind to defeat Haughmond at home 3-2, their fourth successive victory and even more impressively, their eighth straight home win on the 3G at their ground-share home owned by Barwell FC.

The Cooks best form of late has been saved for the cup competitions, so hopefully this will be a boost as we go into this difficult challenge and with us playing in a league higher, AFC will be the underdogs on paper, if not on plastic. Last Saturday we lost a 3-1 half-time lead at home to Lutterworth Town and suffered the heartbreak of conceding a 94th minute equaliser at Compton Park, so we need to get that out of our minds as we face our latest challenge and a good run in the Vase can bring some vital funds into the club, as well as adding a positive vibe around the club.

Scott Carlin takes a strong squad with him, although he must do without keeper Ash Bodycote as the Rugby loanee is ineligible for this competition, whilst Mitch White and Paddy Cichosz remained side-lined by injury.

UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – RESERVE DIVISION

COGENHOE UNITED RESERVES P-P HUNTINGDON TOWN RESERVES

The Reserves scheduled game against Huntingdon has been postponed due to the away side not being able to field a team this week.  Hopefully they will come through their current issues and the game can be re-scheduled at a later day.

This is unfortunate for Ian Adcock as the season has been a bit stop-start for his team lately as they have had a few Saturday’s off now, but they do return to action on Tuesday night when they host local rivals O.N Chenecks Reserves in a 7-45 pm kick-off.

The unbeaten VETS team return to action with a home game on Sunday as they welcome Great Horwood Vets to Compton Park, hoping for a similar performance to last Sunday when they hit nine without reply away to Tattenhoe Rovers.
