COGENHOE UNITED v IRCHESTER UNITED
(Compton Park Back Pitch)
KO 1-30 pm
The Cooks continue their pre-season programme against Irchester United tomorrow afternoon with the game kicking off at the earlier time of 1-30 pm and is being played on the back pitch at Compton Park. Both clubs kicked-off their seasons last weekend with the SSML D1 team losing 7-1 at new-look Daventry Town, while the Cooks came back from 0-2 down against The Romans league rivals Sileby Rangers, the game ending 2-2. We kicked off Scott Carlin’s reign with a fixture played on the same pitch last year, with the Cooks running out 2-1 winners in a very tight game, so we can expect something similar this time around with Dan Stewart’s team on high after clinching promotion from the Northants Combination in the summer.
The F.A have made the draws for the first two round of the F.A Cup and Vase today, with Cogenhoe facing two away games to overcome if they are to put a run together.
The F,A Cup has paired us with Hereford based Westfields who play in the Hellenic League Premier Division with the tie being played over the weekend of 5th August, whilst there is a possibility it may be played the Friday before. Updates on that will follow in due course. The winners of that tie will be at home to either Worcester City or Dudley Town.
The F.A Vase will see the Cooks travel down to London on the 26h August to play step six club Bedfont who play in the Combined Counties League Division One. The Orchard is very close to Heathrow Airport and can be right below the flight path with the planes almost low enough for the keeper to take one out with a high drop-kick on occasions. Well, it seemed that way on my visit anyway. The victorious side from this tie will be at home to one of SSML D1 pair Winslow United or Burton Park Wanderers.
