ISUZU F.A VASE – 1ST ROUND QUALIFYING

COGENHOE UNITED v WINSLOW UNITED

Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN7 1ND

KO 3-PM

The Cooks are in cup action again tomorrow as they entertain Winslow United in the Isuzu F.A Vase with our guests currently sitting in 6th place in the Spartan South Midlands League but were recently up as high as third place before two home defeats slowed them up a little. They were probably a little unfortunate not to get a point from the game against leaders Whitworth, although the Wellingborough side held on for a 2-1 victory, but they were well beaten by Moulton at The Gate last Saturday as former Cogenhoe players Nat Ansu (2), Josh Adams and Luca Iaciofano were amongst the goals as they cancelled out Kevin Owusu’s first minute goal as The Ploughmen crashed 1-5.

The Cooks were 1-0 winners at Bedfont in the previous round as Jack Connor’s first half goal proved enough to secure a safe passage, while Winslow hammered Burton Park Wanderers 8-0 the following day with Louie Howarth bagging four of them. Howarth is the Ploughmen’s top scorer to date this season with eight to his name from just nine games, whilst they also feature the experienced Aaron King who can boast Liverpool on his football CV, whilst Kevin Owusu was a big early season signing, with the diminutive winger having won the division last season with Real Bedford. Owusu is also a player who can pull off some spectacular goals if given a bit of space within shooting distance.

The Cooks haven’t won for three games now following the disappointing League Cup exit and a late goal that gave GNG the points last Saturday. They did draw 1-1 with Northampton Town U23 on Tuesday night but went out the NFA Hillier Senior Cup on penalties. Dylan Wilson netted his eighth goal of the season as he continues to play with a smile on his face which is great to see, but the near gale forced wind straight down the pitch made it extremely difficult for both teams in all fairness.
