COGENHOE UNITED Reserves (0) 1 BOURNE TOWN Reserves (0) 0

Felgate 56 (pen)

Write-up kindly supplied by Reserve team manager Ian Adcock;

The Cooks dominated the first half from start to finish, however, couldn’t find that killer instinct in the box.

The front 4 of Cakebread, Redding, Mobbs & Giddens caused problems for the visitors all half and between them sent 3 crosses across the box only to be missed by all every time, along with a very good save from Bourne’s keeper following a Cakebread effort from 20 yards out.

HT came and a frustrating 0-0 scoreline it was.

Amankwa & Gibbins were brought on at the break and the latter making an immediate impact, driving with the ball through the heart of the Bourne defence and winning a corner.

Shortly afterwards, Cakebread was released down the inside right channel and jinked past the defender along the goal line upon which the defender is forced to pull him back and concede a penalty.

Up steps Captain Felgate who dispatches it with aplomb, 1-0 Cooks.

Aylesbury came on for fresh legs and instantly made a difference, busy and competitive which was needed as Bourne tried to fight back into the game.

Two golden chances to win the game then followed, but Gibbins & Cakebread both failed to hit the target which meant the last 20 minutes was going to be about how well we could defend.

Bourne threw numbers forward but the back line stood firm and other than one save with his legs, Wells never looked troubled all game.

A good performance first half with no reward, followed by a half showing character that we can see a game out when needed, means The Cooks progress into the quarter finals.
