PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY

SILEBY RANGERS v COGENHOE UNITED

Redwell Leisure Centre,

Barnwell Rd,

Wellingborough.

NN8 5LP

KO 2-PM

After a couple of weeks back in training, Scott Carlin puts his lads through their first game of the new season as we face our old friends Sileby Rangers on Saturday afternoon. Please note the change of venue above as Sileby switched the game from Moulton College earlier this week.

Sileby, managed by former Cook Stuart Smeathers, have a number of our former players in their squad and we are sure to see a few of them in action tomorrow, while Biff’s team may be less recognisable as he will be running the rule over a number of trialists in this game. Seven of last team’s first team regulars have opted to try their luck at a higher level, more details of those to follow at a later date, while keeper Ash Bodycote has apparently made the surprise move to drop down a division and play for Rothwell Corinthians in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One next season. All these eight players had told Biff they were going to stay at Compton Park, so it is a very tough time for the Cooks gaffer and his coaching team as they strive to get a competitive squad ready for the start of the league season in just 29 days time. They aren’t helped in tomorrow’s game by the fact that a few of the players who have opted to remain at Compton Park are actually away on holiday too.

Other shock news to come out of the club this week is that the Reserves team will not operate this season following the news that Ian Adcock has opted to take over the reins at O.N Chenecks Reserves and take last season’s players with him. This, added to the loss of the U18s team at this point last year and the news that the all-conquering Veterans team have decided to move elsewhere for financial reasons, sees the Club operate just one senior team for the first time in my memory.

There has also been a couple of changes to our Pre-Season programme as the game game against Kettering Town will now be played on Tuesday 18th July, replacing the the trip to Whitworth. I believe the club are trying to fill the void we now have on Saturday 15th and if I hear anything I will update you through the website.
