MK Veterans League

Division 3

Leighton Lions vs Cogenhoe Utd

Sunday 7th May. KO 10.30

Having already secured the division 3 title with 4 games to spare and unbeaten in the league this season, Cogenhoe vets travel to Leighton Lions on Sunday in what will be a 6 point game with the League and the Lions both agreeing to double up on the 2 games the sides have to play against each other still. The Cooks come into this game on the back of an away win at Great Horwood 7-0 last Sunday. The 7 goals scored puts the total goals scored in the league by the Cooks this season at 92, so the lads will be looking to hit the 100 mark in the remaining games. Steve Carroll did score another hat-trick last Sunday putting him on 39 for the season and he will be looking to get a bit closer to 50. Another 2 names were added to the goalscorer speadsheet last Sunday when goalkeeper Stuart Schofield had a turn on the pitch and managed to get a brace to his name and Phil O’Brien became the 17th squad member to score this season. All credit to the lads in as much as Cogenhoe had the least amount of players signed on by any team in the league this season, but despite injuries, have still managed to get a side out every game, even if they have been a bit short of substitutes on occasion’s and players have had to play on through the pain.

Leighton Lions currently sit in 5th position in the division having played 19 games with 10 wins, 5 draws and 4 defeats, they have scored 48 and conceded 30.  The Lions only played twice in April suffering a 5-0 defeat at Bicester then winning 2-1 at Clean Slate last Sunday.
