The Cooks travelled to Lamb Meadow and found themselves falling to their first defeat of pre-season at the hands of a very good step three team in Tamworth.

The home dominated the early proceedings and were rewarded with an 11th minute opener from Eoin McKeown, but the Cooks started to get themselves back into as the half wore on and only a goal-line clearance denied Archie Elmore and equaliser before the break.

The Lambs started off the second half in determined mood and a four-goal burst in the short seven minute spell put paid to our unbeaten run. Callum Griffin, Ty Deacon, Jordan Clement and George Cater all found the net early in the second half, but Cogenhoe dug deep to avoid a cricket score, but they were hit for six when Lucas Yeomans rounded off the scoring eight minutes from time.

A  big win for a very impressive Tamworth squad managed by Andy Peaks and we wish him, Neil Champlovier and his squad all the best in their quest to take Tamworth back into the National League next summer.

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY

WHITWORTH v COGENHOE UNITED

Whitworth Sports Ground,

London Road,

Wellingborough.

NN8 ZDP

KO 3pm

The Cooks face a much shorter trip on Saturday as they head down the A45 to play Wellingborough Whitworth in their final pre-season friendly and will be looking for a quick return to form against step six opponents.

It certainly won’t be s stroll in the park though with our hosts just missing out on promotion to our division in a 4-1 Play-Off Final defeat to Shefford Town & Campton last May and they will be hoping to go one better this time around. They had a few ex-Cooks players on their books last season so we may see some familiar faces, but I haven’t seen any information on who they have signed this time around so that may not turn out to be the case.

For the Cooks it will be the final chance to impress in match action before the big kick-off next weekend at Rugby Town, without risking any injuries of course.

If you can’t make it over to Wellingborough, then the Reserves are at home to Harpole Reserves with a 2pm kick-off. This appears to have replaced the scheduled trip to David Green United.
