EMIRATES F.A CUP – EXTRA PRELIMINARY ROUND – REPLAY

COGENHOE UNITED v WESTFIELDS

Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN7 1ND

KO 7-45 pm

The Cooks and Westfields go again on Tuesday night after 90 minutes failed to separate them in Hereford on Saturday afternoon. It was an entertaining game played on an excellent, albeit wet surface at Allpay Park as the showers continued right through the afternoon. The game was end-to-end throughout, but it must be said that three very good saves by Adam North proved vital as we grabbed an equaliser deep into stoppage time to earn this replay.

Ollie Barnes had given the home side the half-time lead from the penalty spot, but Dylan Wilson’s emphatic spot-kick levelled things up on 71 minutes. It looked like Westfields had snatched a win late on when Harry Summers’ thunderbolt screamed into the back of the net, but up popped substitute Jamie Hall with a superb strike with 92 minutes on the clock to keep us in the cup. It could have been even better as a good save from Matt Apperley denied a late, late winner for Hall, who still had one more opportunity, but he placed his shot wide of the far post as the keeper closed him down on the edge of the box.

This will be Westfields first trip to Compton Park and I’m sure they would have been a lot happier with the journey if it hadn’t been on a Tuesday night, but that is what the F.A Cup is all about.

The winners will have a home tie in the next round and will be up against fallen giants of non-league football in Worcester City, who beat Dudley Town 3-0 at Claines Lane on Saturday with Dylan Hart (13), Cameron Monteith (16) and Elliott Hartley (52) all on target. These days City are Hellenic League Premier Division rivals of today’s opponents.
