PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES

COGENHOE UNITED Reserves v AFC OAKLEY

KO 1PM ON THE BACK PITCH

COGENHOE UNITED v DAVENTRY TOWN

3PM ON THE MAIN PITCH

Both our senior sides are in action tomorrow with the Reserves starting things off at 1pm on the back pitch as they take on Befordshire League Premier Division side AFC Oakley. This should prove to be good tests for Ian Adcock’s boys against a team whom we played pre-season last year at their place with the game ending 2-2. Shad Reza with a free-kick and a great finish by Luca Iaciofano had put a very young Cooks team two-nil up inside 24 minutes, but the more experienced Oakley team fought back to earn a draw.

Oakley kicked off their season last Saturday with a creditable 1-1 draw at Eaton Socon, whilst we travelled into Leicester to plat St Andrews 1st team and despite taking the lead through Seb-Patrick Meden, we were eventually beaten 3-1.

Later on in the afternoon the Cooks host Northern Premier League Division One Midlands club Daventry Town on the main pitch. There has always been a friendly rivalry between our clubs from their days in the UCL and they could well feature a few ex-Cogenhoe players in their squad with Taylor Orosz, Ross Harris, Jack Bowen, Carter Price and Dylan Wilson all playing their part in the Dav squad last season. Arron Parkinson has been at the helm at Elderstubbs for a few season’s now and is a well-respected manager around these parts so may well have added some new faces to his squad during the summer.

As far as I know this will be our visitors first run out in pre-season, while the Cooks have already played twice. A 2-1 win over Irchester was followed up on Thursday night by a 3-3 draw at Leicester Nirvana as Scott Carlin and his team continue to look at players in preparation for the last Saturday of the month when the league season gets underway. Hopefully the league will release the fixtures soon as that is now only three weeks away.

We will be in action again on Tuesday night when we make the trip to Rushden & Higham United from the step below us, then next Saturday we host AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the first round of the N.F.A Hillier Senior Cup.
