The Vets had another cup game, this time against league rivals Northampton Sovereigns, coming out as 5-4 victors after extra time. Paul Carroll opened the scoring with some fabulous footwork and a great finish. Sovereigns replied with two quick goals going ahead 2-1 and shocking the away team. Gary Duggan scored from a corner with an equalizer for the Cooks, but soon after Northampton Sovereigns took the lead once again, catching Cogenhoe on the counter attack. This game was full of goals and when the ball went into the box with what looked like being an easy catch for the keeper, but it wasn’t and Mark Dent pounced to head it over him to make it 3-3. The game went into extra time and for the second time Cogenhoe went ahead, this time with a goal from Steve Carroll, only minutes later to be cancelled out by the Sovereigns.

Second half of extra time began and the game had penalties written all over it, but when the Cooks gained a free kick on the edge of the box, Lee Haines stepped up and with his left foot and put it into the top corner and out of the keepers reach to make it 5-4 and what a winning goal it was.

Report supplied by Sam Duggan.

The Cooks return to league action on Sunday with a trip to Milton Keynes when they face Tattenhoe Veterans Rovers at the Tattenhoe Sports Pavilion, Holborn Crescent, MK4 3EQ. Kick-off 10-30am.
