UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH

RUGBY BOROUGH v COGENHOE UNITED

Nationwide Windows Arena,

Kilsby Lane,

Rugby,

Warks.

CV21 4PN

KO 7-45 pm

9th placed Cooks travel to 17th placed Rugby Town on Wednesday evening hoping to build on the Vase win on Saturday, while our hosts will be hoping for a return of form in the league and also to banish the disappointment of losing on penalties to fallen non-league giants Worcester City after drawing 2-2 in the city last time out. Sam Lockley and Gez McGahey got their goals on Saturday, two of the many former Long Buckby players who had teamed up again with Dan Carter, but they may well have a new gaffer by the time they play us as Carter resigned following heavy defeats at home GNG Oadby Town (1-5) and away at Halesowen Town where they were beaten 7-0. Since his departure things haven’t improved too much and back to back 0-3 defeats against March and Newport followed, although it must be said that these two are amongst the favourites to at least make the play-offs this season. Defensively Borough have conceded 26 goals in their previous 7 games and they haven’t won in the league for over a month now since they beat Coventry United 5-2 at Kilsby Lane.

Rugby Borough are a relatively new team to senior football and following their elevation to step six from the Leicestershire Senior League, they went straight through the Spartan South Midlands League Division One via the play-offs, beating our local friends ON Chenecks in the final. They also won the Gladwish Trophy in their only season in the league, a competition that includes teams from the Premier Division, which was no mean feat.

This will be the first time our two clubs have met, so no past results to look back at this week, but they have a very neat ground with a couple of stands and of course that 3G surface.
