UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH

LUTTERWORTH TOWN v COGENHOE UNITED

Dunley Way,

Lutterworth,

Leics,

LE17 4NP

KO 7-45 pm

The Cooks travel just over the border into Leicestershire on Tuesday evening as we look to build on our excellent opening day 3-0 win over Coventry United. Stan Channell, Alex Parkes and Jamie Hall all opened their season’s accounts on Saturday, while Adam North started things off with a just as vital clean sheet down the other end.

The Swifts didn’t enjoy their start as much though, slipping to a 2-1 defeat on the 3G pitch at Leading Drove where Yaxley took all three points with a last-minute winner after the visitors had been reduced to ten men. Matthew Harris-Hercules had given the Cuckoos the lead with his 21st minute goal, but the Swifts were looking good for an away point thanks to Brandon Williams 31st minute leveller. Bruno Capela was shown a straight red-card for the Swifts with eleven minutes remaining, but they looked like holding out for a point right up until the 90th minute when Harris-Hercules grabbed his second of the game. Yaxley also played out stoppage time with ten men after Sam Brooks picked up his second yellow card of the game, but it didn’t affect the result of the game.

The Cooks will also be looking to bury the memory of what was to be our worst performance of last season when we headed to Dunley Way on a bleak Tuesday night at the end of February with both teams still needing points to ensure their Premier Division status remained intact. Hanibal Sallami proved to be the match winner on the day though as his double strike on 29 and 85 minutes saw the Swifts take the points 2-0 and leave us looking worryingly over at shoulders as our conquerors leap-frogged us in the table. As it is, we were to pull ourselves together after that performance and finished the season seven points and four places above the Swifts come the end of April.
