UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH

COGENHOE UNITED v G.N.G OADBY TOWN

Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN4 9RJ

KO 2-pm

The Cooks are hoping to return to action following last week’s freeze when GNG visit the village tomorrow afternoon with the game kicking off at 2 o’clock. The pitch is currently playable, but the forecast is currently predicting heavy rain for a protracted period during the morning and this may force a pitch inspection if it materialises. The weather forecast isn’t always correct though, so fingers crossed.

We have already travelled to Leicester to face GNG this season and it ended in a very disappointing 2-1 defeat after we had pegged the home side back late on, only to concede an even later goal. A lacklustre first half had seen the home side deservedly lead thanks to a Mussa Bham finish on 16 minutes, but the Cooks turned the screw after the break with the sending off of GNG keeper Fred Craven for a reckless challenge on Alex Parkes seeing the game become almost one way traffic. The equaliser finally arrived on 87 minutes when Sonny Knights opened his account for the club from close range and the boys now sensed the three points would be theirs, but having earlier sacrificed a centre-back in our hunt to salvage something from the game, a clearance picked out a totally unmarked Zaakir Bham in the centre of our half and he lashed home the winning goal a minute from time.

Keep an eye on the weather and our social media in the morning, but hopefully we will be back action as we look to atone for that defeat earlier in the season.
