UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH

COGENHOE UNITED v GODMANCHESTER ROVERS

Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN7 1ND

KO 7-45 pm

Friday night football returns to Compton Park this week as we host Godmanchester Rovers in the league after the fixture was reversed as our opponents have a firework display at their place on Saturday.

Both teams are saving their best form for the cups of late and Goddy were 4-0 winners over fellow strugglers Eynesbury Rovers in the Hinchinbrooke Cup on Tuesday night as Matty Allan (2), Declan Rogers and Ben Tait all found the target. Eynesbury were their last league opponents too, this one ended up 2-2 though. They have won just once on the road in the league this season, a very impressive 3-0 success at Bugbrooke but that was way back at the start of September, although they have picked up a couple of draws and will be encouraged by the fact that Cogenhoe have yet to win a home league match so far.

Last season our visitors won 2-1 here, the same score that had beaten us by at the David Wilson Homes ground earlier in the campaign. Both games were clinched late on with our home game seeing Craig Foxall sent to the sin-bin three minutes from time and the visitors then snatching the win from the penalty spot. Luca Iaciofano was the Cooks scorer that day, with Alfie Warman and Danny Baulk scoring for the visitors.

Our previous meeting here came in the F.A Cup extra-preliminary round back in 2017 in pre-pandemic days. Luis Vieira put us ahead in the first minute and Ryan Dove doubled the lead ten minutes later. Matty Long added a third on 90 minutes to round off a 3-0 win, but there was still time for Dove to pick up a silly second yellow card as we saw out added time with ten men.

The Cooks were 4-1 winners at home to West Bridgford last Saturday with Jamie Hall, Louie Barrett, Kodi Briggs and Josh Adams on target, but after going 3-0 up inside 14 minutes and playing against ten men for more than half the game, it wasn’t as comprehensive as the score line makes it seem.

UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – RESERVE DIVISION

COGENHOE UNITED RESERVES v DAVENTRY TOWN RESERVES Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN7 1ND

KO 2 pm

The Reserves three match unbeaten run will be put to the test on Saturday afternoon when in-form Daventry Town pay us a visit. Our guests are on an four match unbeaten streak going into this game and last weekend they pulled off a very impressive 2-1 win over Kempston Rovers, who would move up to second spot were they to win their games in hand. First half goals from Mathew Gigante and former Cooks man James Lovell put Daventry in the driving seat and although Rovers reduced the arrears after the break, the hosts held on to take all three points. Their last defeat came at O.N Chenecks just over a month ago when the home side won 5-3, with the second half failing to live up to the first which had ended 4-3.

Last weekend the Cooks travelled to GNG and despite a depleted squad, beat their hosts 2-1 with Glenn Cakebread and Kieron Mobbs the men on target.
