ISUZU F.A VASE – 2ND ROUND QUALIFYING

COGENHOE UNITED v RAUNDS TOWN

Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN7 1ND

KO 3pm

The Cooks hope to continue their run in this season’s Vase after knocking out fellow UCL PDS side Rothwell Corinthians when they entertain our one-time league rivals Raunds Town on Saturday. The Shopmates ply their trade in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One these days, a step below the Cooks, having been at that level for the last eleven years. The last time we met in a competitive game at Compton Park was on Saturday 16th October 2010 when the Cooks ran out 3-1 winners in front of 43 spectators. Adriano Staffieri netted the visitors as goals from Karl Bates, Ben Foster and Elliot Sandy gave Cogenhoe the points. A lot has happened since that game, but Sandy is still banging the goals in for Spalding United even though he is now in the veteran stage of his career.

The Cooks will be looking to get back into winning ways after two successive defeats, 5-4 at Milton Keynes Irish and 0-2 at home to Long Buckby last weekend, whilst Raunds are on a little bit of a high after beating Langford 2-0 in their last game. Mihail Baduleanu and Sheldon Washington netted the goals as our opponents ended a run of six straight defeats. I watched them lose 9-1 at Real Bedford a couple of weeks ago in the game after manager Laurence Revell resigned and they were torn apart at the back that night, but temporary managers Dean McBride and Luke Aridegbe have managed to settle things down quickly and are already turning things around. This could well prove to be a tricky game for the Cooks who go into the game as favourites as Raunds have nothing to lose and will give it their all, so we will need to improve on last Saturday’s performance to ensure we are in the hat for the draw next Monday. The game will go straight to penalties if the scores are level on 90 minutes with no extra-time or replays in this competition this season.

UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – RESERVE DIVISION

NEWPORT PAGNELL TOWN Reserves v COGENHOE UNITED Reserves

Willen Road,

Newport Pagnell,

Milton Keynes.

MK16 0DF

KO 2pm

Second from bottom Cooks Reserves face a really difficult game on Saturday when they head to second from top Newport Pagnell Town. The Swans are currently in fine form, at least over their previous two games, beating Bugbrooke St Michaels 5-1 at home on Tuesday night, following on from a 10-1 win at Rothwell Corinthians a few days earlier. The game before that saw them lose 8-0 at 100% leaders Harborough Town and it is an extremely rare occurrence for any team to lose 8-0 and then win 10-1 in their very next game!

The Cooks got back into action after a long break with a home game against Milton Keynes Irish on Tuesday night and despite Glenn Cakebread giving them the half-time lead, the visitors fought back to take the points 2-1.

Last season’s clash at Willen Road was a day to forget for the Cooks as an Elias Bailey hat-trick lead the way for The Swans to romp to a 5-0 win. The Cooks have a very different squad this season though, with substitute that day James McGrath the only player remaining at Compton Park.

NORTHANTS F.A VETERANS CUP – 1ST ROUND

NORTH STAR VETS v COGENHOE UNITED VETS

Ecton Brook Playing Field.

KO 10-30 am

The Vets team play their second game of the season as they face North Star again, three weeks after drawing 2-2 with them in their first league game. Two penalties counted for the Cooks that day with Sam Duggan netting the first and Ricky Smith the second. Star have played twice so far with a 6-0 home win over Open University last weekend giving them their first victory.
