NORTHANTS F.A DAVID JOYCE U18 CUP-SEMI FINAL

COGENHOE UNITED U18 v NORTHAMPTON TOWN U18

Compton Park,
Brafield Rd,
Cogenhoe.
NN7 1ND

KO 7-45pm

The Cooks entertain the youth team of local EFL club Northampton Town in the semi-final of the NFA David Joyce Cup hoping to pull off the result of the season and reach the final where the winners will face Bugbrooke St Michaels.

The Cobblers came into the competition at the quarter-final stage and romped to an 8-0 win at Wellingborough Town, but the Cooks have had to play twice, winning 3-1 at AFC Rushden & Diamonds before beating Rothwell Corinthians Development 3-2 here in the village. Neither team have enjoyed their starts to 2022, both losing their first games heavily. The Cooks were beaten 5-0 here by Whitworth Red last Thursday and the Cobblers travelled to Sutton United where they went down by a disappointing 4-1 scoreline.

This game is obviously going to be a tough task for the Cogenhoe youngsters, but it’s a chance to impress against the town’s ‘big club’ and anything can happen over 90 minutes, just think back to Coventry City a few seasons ago and how close we pushed Crystal Palace.

UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE-RESERVE DIVISION

COGENHOE UNITED v KEMPSTON ROVERS

KO 3-pm

After last weeks postponement, the Reserves will be hoping to shake off the rust and get going again as they host Kempston Rovers in the league. The Walnutboys second string are currently fourth in the table and have the advantage of ninety-minutes in their legs last weekend when they hammered Irchester United 11-1 at Hillgrounds, with Luke Burrows and Ayomide Akinbobola both netting personal trebles in the game. Rovers needed that win if they are to keep their title hopes alive after failing to do so in their previous three games, but they certainly know where the goal is having netted those eleven, one eight, five sevens and two sixes already this season. One of the half-dozens came in the reverse of this fixture at the start of October when they came from behind to beat us 6-1 with a late rally. Ben Mason had given the Cooks the lead after just 3 minutes, but doubles from Rafal Wielblad and Ben Cherry were back up by Giovanni Moscaritolo and Akinbobola on the day.

It has been a few weeks since the Cooks last played, but they are in pretty good form having won three and drawn one of their last five games and they will be a different prospect from the last clash between the two sides as they went through a tough patch, especially at the back.
