MK Veterans League

Division 3.

Open University vs Cogenhoe United.

Walton Hall Campus.

21st May ’23, KO 10.30.

Cogenhoe vets will play their last game of the season this Sunday away to Open University.

Open Uni sit 3 from bottom of the league with 20 points from 21 games having won 6, lost 13 and drawn 2, with 38 goals scored and 83 conceded.

Uni come in to the game on the back of a 3-2 home win versus Great Horwood last Sunday. Cogenhoe did not play last week as Northampton Sovereigns were a no-show for the second time this season giving the Cooks another walkover, the 6th walkover for the lads this season. The situation with walkovers is that a team is awarded 3 points, but no goals, so having already scored 92 goals this season, which is an average of over 4 goals per game (with less than a goal per game conceded), the six games not played has deprived the lads of the chance to add to their goal tally to nudge them to 100 goals in the league this season.

Disappointingly, the Cooks vets will not be presented with the Division 3 trophy before their season is over, despite the fact the league was won weeks ago, the league will not have the trophy available until sometime next week.

Manager Sam Duggan will have no headache trying to decide what players to pick this week, with players unavailable and a lot more injured, with only 11 players to choose from at the time of writing, the team picks itself, all Sam will have to decide is who plays where!
