UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE SPORTS GROUND DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE CUP – 2ND ROUND

COGENHOE UNITED v WEST BRIDGFORD

Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN7 1ND

KO 3pm

Cooks face another club for the first time as Division One team West Bridgford make the trip down from Nottingham in the league cup. To get to the second round, the Cooks were convincing 4-0 winners over our opponents league rivals Rainworth Miners Welfare, whilst West Bridgford have received byes to get here and will be playing their first ever game in this competition. They made their way up from the Nottinghamshire League to the East Midlands Counties League and when they F.A disbanded that league in the summer, they were moved across the UCL.

Life has been tough so far in their new surroundings and they currently sit second from bottom having lost their last six games, although their last outing on Monday night was in the Notts F.A Senior Cup when they went down 1-2 at home to Notts County. Just for a little perspective against a team we really know little about, they beat Rainworth MW 5-0 in the league, but since then they have struggled and now sit six places and seven points behind them in the division one table. Their last win came at Southwell City when second half goals from Aaron Bailey and Grant Ryan gave them a 2-0 victory, but that was five weeks ago now.

The Cooks will be looking to get back to winning ways after going down 4-1 at Hinckley AFC last Saturday, a somewhat unfair scoreline from our point of view as the game was much closer than that, but we move on and will be targeting a place in the hat for the third round draw come Saturday night.

Our next game has seen a little reshuffle in the fixture list as Godmanchester Rovers are having a firework display at their ground on the Saturday so have asked to reverse our games. As the Reserves are at home to Daventry Town on that day, the game will now be played on Friday 4th November at Compton Park with a 7-45 pm kick-off.

UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – RESERVE DIVISION

G.N.G OADBY TOWN RESERVES v COGENHOE UNITED RESERVES

Riverside Football Ground,

Braunstone Lane East,

Leicester.

LE3 2FD

KO 2-pm

The Reserves will be aiming to make it three unbeaten as they make their first trip to G.N.G Oadby Town’s new ground in the city. A midweek 0-0 draw at home to Chenecks followed on from the 2-0 victory at Bourne some ten days previous, while GNG were beaten 4-1 at Rothwell Corinthians twenty-four hours later. Our hosts currently lie tenth, four points ahead of the Cooks, although we do have two games in hand on them.

Last Saturday The Poachers ran out 4-1 winners at Raunds Town with leading scorer Mamadu Djalo taking his tally up to seven with a hat-trick as they bounced back from a 1-5 home reverse to Harborough Town.

This will be the Cooks first trip to G.N.G Oadby Town’s new ground in the city and as they move away from the Oadby part of the merger, I can’t help but think this could be the beginning of the end for the famous old name in Leicestershire football.
