UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE SPORTSGROUND DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE CUP – 1ST ROUND

COGENHOE UNITED v RAINWORTH MINERS WELFARE

Compton Park,

Brafield Rd,

Cogenhoe.

NN7 1ND

KO 3-pm

The Cooks face new opposition on Saturday when we host former F.A Vase finalists Rainworth M.W in the first round of the Knock-Out Cup. Our visitors play in Division One and currently sit in 16th place in the table, but have found the going somewhat tough in recent games. They have just one win from their last six games, an excellent 3-1 win over high-flying Radford in the Notts Senior Cup as they came from behind through goals from Colt Reynolds, Kieron Coupe and Curtis Williamson. Since winning three on the spin in August against Barrow Town, Holwell Sports and Dunkirk without conceding a single goal, league form has dipped and they have suffered some heavy defeats along the way. Bourne Town and West Bridgford both put five past them, then last Saturday Birstall United beat them 6-2 in Leicester. Aaron Hewitt and George Simpson scoring for the Wrens.

The Cooks will be looking to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat at Easington Sports last weekend in the proverbial game of two halves in Banbury. Scott Carlin will have to do without new keeper Ash Bodycote who is cup-tied after playing for Rugby Town, but fellow new signing Jamie Hall will be available for selection.

The Reserves are without a game so will have time to reflect on Tuesday night’s defeat at Bugbrooke before returning to action next Tuesday in the Reserve KO Cup at Whitworth.

NORTHAMPTON SOVEREIGNS VETS v COGENHOE UNITED VETS

The Elgar Centre Playing Field,

High St,

Upton,

NN5 4EN

The Veterans kick-off their League Cup campaign with a trip to fellow Division Three side Sovereigns on Sunday morning. Last weekend they played their first home game of the season and beat Clean Slate 6-1 with Steve Carroll and Ollie Reynolds both netting braces. Paul Carroll and Paul Raymond were the other Cooks players on target. Our hosts are in good form with two wins out of two so far, a 9-3 win away to Open University followed by a 4-2 success at Brooklands & Broughton in Milton Keynes.
